ソフィー・エルムハースト（Sophie Elmhirst）
イギリスのジャーナリスト、作家。『ガーディアン』『エコノミスト』などに寄稿し、社会問題や人々の暮らしを題材とした長編記事を手がける。2020年にはBritish Journalism AwardsのFeatures Writer of the Yearを受賞。初の著書『極限の漂流118日間』は、1973年にヨットがクジラと衝突して沈没し、太平洋上を118日間漂流したモーリスとマラリン・ベイリー夫妻の実話を描いたノンフィクションで、漂流中の過酷なサバイバルと、対照的な性格を持つ二人の結婚生活を重ねて描いている。2024年のNero Book Awardsでノンフィクション部門を受賞し、さらに年間最優秀作に贈られるGold Prizeを受賞した。
Sophie Elmhirst
A British journalist and author who has written for publications including The Guardian and The Economist, covering social issues and everyday lives through long-form journalism. She was named Features Writer of the Year at the British Journalism Awards in 2020. Her debut book, "Maurice and Maralyn," tells the true story of Maurice and Maralyn Bailey, a married couple who spent 118 days adrift in the Pacific after their yacht was struck by a whale and sank in 1973. Combining an extraordinary survival story with a portrait of a marriage between two sharply contrasting personalities, the book won the nonfiction category at the 2024 Nero Book Awards and went on to receive the overall Gold Prize.
