Saul Friedländer（ソール・フリードレンダー、1932年生まれ）は、チェコスロバキア生まれのイスラエルの歴史学者。幼少期にナチスの迫害を逃れて生き延びたホロコースト生存者であり、その体験は後の研究に大きな影響を与えた。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校教授を長年務め、専門はホロコースト研究、ナチス・ドイツ史、ユダヤ史、現代ヨーロッパ史。被害者・加害者・傍観者それぞれの視点を織り交ぜた歴史叙述によって、ホロコースト研究を大きく発展させた世界的権威として知られる。2007年刊行の『The Years of Extermination: Nazi Germany and the Jews, 1939–1945』は、ナチスによるユダヤ人迫害と大量虐殺を総合的に描いた記念碑的研究として高く評価され、2008年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『Nazi Germany and the Jews』『When Memory Comes』『Reflections of Nazism』『The Years of Persecution』『The Years of Extermination』などがある。
Saul Friedländer (born 1932) is a Czech-born Israeli historian and one of the world's foremost scholars of the Holocaust. A Holocaust survivor who escaped Nazi persecution as a child, his personal experiences profoundly shaped his historical work. He served for many years as Professor of History at the University of California, Los Angeles, specializing in Holocaust studies, Nazi Germany, Jewish history, and modern European history. Renowned for integrating the perspectives of victims, perpetrators, and bystanders into a single historical narrative, he has had a lasting influence on Holocaust historiography. His monumental study "The Years of Extermination: Nazi Germany and the Jews, 1939–1945" won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and is widely regarded as one of the definitive histories of the Holocaust. His other notable works include "Nazi Germany and the Jews," "When Memory Comes," "Reflections of Nazism," and "The Years of Persecution."
