Hiroyuki Shiode (born 1974) is a Japanese historian and Professor at the Graduate School of Letters, Kyoto University. Specializing in modern Japanese political history, his research focuses on Japanese migration and colonialism, the history of the Ryukyu Islands and Okinawa, and East Asian international relations. Drawing on extensive archival research, he examines the formation of the modern Japanese state within its broader regional context. His best-known book, "The Ryukyu Disposition: The Origin of the 'Okinawa Question'," reexamines Japan's annexation of the Ryukyu Kingdom and explores the historical origins of the issues surrounding Okinawa today.
