ステファン・ヘルトマンス（Stefan Hertmans、1951年 - ）は、ベルギーの詩人、小説家。ベルギーのオランダ語圏を中心に、詩、小説、エッセイ、戯曲など幅広い分野で作品を発表し、ゲント王立美術アカデミーで20年以上教鞭を執った。『戦争とテレピン油』（原題 Oorlog en terpentijn）でAKO文学賞を受賞し、英訳版 "War and Turpentine" はマン・ブッカー国際賞の候補作となった。同作では、第一次世界大戦を兵士として経験し、画家として生きた祖父ユルバンが遺した二冊のノートをもとに、戦場での体験や家族の記憶、絵を描くことへの情熱をたどりながら、一人の市井の人間の生涯と20世紀前半のベルギーの歴史を重ね合わせて描いている。
Stefan Hertmans (born 1951) is a Belgian poet and novelist who writes in Dutch. He has published poetry, novels, essays, and plays and taught for more than twenty years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. His novel "War and Turpentine," originally published in Dutch as "Oorlog en terpentijn," received the AKO Literature Prize and was longlisted for the Man Booker International Prize. Drawing on two notebooks left to him by his grandfather, Urbain, who fought as a soldier in World War I and later pursued his passion for painting, Hertmans reconstructs his grandfather's experiences of war, family life, love, and art, intertwining one ordinary man's life with the history of Belgium in the first half of the twentieth century.
