Siddhartha Mukherjee (born 1970) is an Indian-born American physician, oncologist, cell biologist, and author. After studying biology at Stanford University, he earned a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He is Professor of Medicine at Columbia University, where he combines clinical practice with cancer research. Internationally acclaimed for making complex biomedical science accessible to general readers, he won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for "The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer." His other notable books include "The Gene: An Intimate History," "The Song of the Cell: An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human," and "The Laws of Medicine: Field Notes from an Uncertain Science."
