Shehan Karunatilaka (born 1975) is a Sri Lankan novelist. After beginning his writing career while working as an advertising copywriter, he gained international recognition when his debut novel, "Chinaman," won the Commonwealth Book Prize and several other literary awards. In 2022, he received the Booker Prize for "The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida." His best-known novel, "The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida," follows a murdered war photographer in civil-war-era Sri Lanka, exploring the legacy of violence, the search for historical truth, and the resilience of human dignity through a blend of satire, mystery, and the supernatural.
