Wakana Shuto is a Japanese economist and Professor of Economics at Rikkyo University. Her research focuses on labor economics and social policy, with particular emphasis on non-regular employment, women's work, care labor, and employment issues in the logistics industry. Her best-known book, "Butsuryū Kiki wa Owaranai" ("The Logistics Crisis Is Not Over"), examines the structural challenges facing Japan's logistics sector—including driver shortages, long working hours, and the so-called 2024 problem—drawing on field research and economic analysis to explore paths toward a more sustainable logistics system.
