Ryo Shimizu (born 1991) is a Japanese sociologist and assistant professor at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Keio University. He completed his doctorate in sociology at the University of Tokyo and specializes in the sociology of war, memory studies, life-history research, and fieldwork. His research examines how experiences of war are remembered and transmitted through individuals, organizations, and local communities. His representative book, ""Yokaren" Sen'yūkai no Shakaigaku: Sensō no Kioku no Katachi," received the 22nd Japanese Sociological Society Encouragement Award in the book category. Focusing on veterans’ associations formed by former members of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s preparatory flight-training program for boys, it traces how veterans’ struggles over education and public identity intersected with networks involving women’s groups, political and business leaders, and the Self-Defense Forces in the creation of memorials, museums, and a collective memory of the Yokaren.
