Shun Shigenaga is a Japanese historical geographer and author specializing in urban and historical geography. A doctoral researcher at Kyoto University, he studies the historical geography of cities while also working as a guide for the walking-tour organization Maimai Kyoto. His writing uses maps, statistics, and urban landscapes to explore how Japanese cities and regions have developed over time. His best-known book, "Why Do Y-Shaped Roads Exist?" examines the geographical and historical forces behind the formation of Y-shaped intersections, revealing how urban landscapes reflect the history of the places in which they emerged.
