ジューディア・パール（1936年–）は、イスラエル出身のアメリカのコンピュータ科学者。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校（UCLA）で人工知能、確率的推論、因果推論を研究し、ベイジアンネットワークの発展と、原因と結果の関係を数理的に扱う枠組みの構築に大きく貢献した。確率的・因果的推論のための計算法を確立した業績により、2011年にチューリング賞を受賞。ダナ・マッケンジーとの共著『因果推論の科学 「なぜ？」の問いにどう答えるか』（The Book of Why: The New Science of Cause and Effect）では、観察による関連性、介入による因果関係、反実仮想という「因果のはしご」を示し、データから「何が起きたか」だけでなく「なぜ起きたか」を考えるための方法を解説している。
Judea Pearl (1936–) is an Israeli-born American computer scientist whose research at the University of California, Los Angeles has focused on artificial intelligence, probabilistic reasoning, and causal inference. He played a central role in the development of Bayesian networks and created a mathematical framework for reasoning about cause and effect. He received the 2011 A. M. Turing Award for his fundamental contributions to probabilistic and causal reasoning in artificial intelligence. Co-authored with Dana Mackenzie, “The Book of Why: The New Science of Cause and Effect” presents a “ladder of causation” moving from association to intervention and counterfactual reasoning, explaining how researchers can use data to ask not only what happened but why it happened.
