ジョゼフ・J・エリス（Joseph J. Ellis、1943–）は、アメリカの歴史学者。マウント・ホリヨーク大学名誉教授を務め、アメリカ建国期の政治史と建国の父たちの研究を専門としている。トマス・ジェファソン、ジョージ・ワシントン、ジョン・アダムズらの伝記や建国期の政治思想に関する著作で知られ、緻密な史料研究と平易な語り口を兼ね備えた歴史家として高い評価を得ている。代表作 American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson では、トマス・ジェファソンの複雑な人物像を多面的に描き、1997年の全米図書賞（ノンフィクション部門）を受賞した。2001年には『Founding Brothers』でピューリッツァー賞（歴史部門）も受賞している。
Joseph J. Ellis (1943–) is an American historian. Professor Emeritus of History at Mount Holyoke College, he specializes in the political and intellectual history of the American founding era. He is widely recognized for his biographies of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, and other Founding Fathers, combining rigorous scholarship with engaging narrative prose. His best-known book, American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson, offers a nuanced portrait of Jefferson and won the 1997 National Book Award for Nonfiction. He later received the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for History for Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation.
