John Toland（ジョン・トーランド、1912–2004）は、アメリカの歴史作家、ジャーナリスト。ウィリアム・アンド・メアリー大学で学んだ後、第二次世界大戦中は従軍記者として活動し、その後は戦争史や現代史を中心に執筆活動を行った。膨大な史料と数千人に及ぶ関係者へのインタビューに基づく実証的な歴史叙述で知られ、第二次世界大戦や日本近現代史の研究に大きな影響を与えた。1976年刊行の『The Rising Sun』は、日本側・連合国側双方の視点から太平洋戦争を描いた大作として高く評価され、1977年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『Adolf Hitler』『The Rising Sun』『Infamy: Pearl Harbor and Its Aftermath』『No Man's Land』などがある。

John Toland (1912–2004) was an American historian, journalist, and author. After studying at the College of William & Mary, he worked as a war correspondent during World War II before devoting his career to writing narrative history. Renowned for his exhaustive archival research and thousands of interviews with participants on all sides of major conflicts, he became one of the leading historians of the Second World War and modern Japan. His landmark work The Rising Sun, a comprehensive history of the Pacific War from both the Japanese and Allied perspectives, won the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. His other notable books include Adolf Hitler, Infamy: Pearl Harbor and Its Aftermath, and No Man's Land.
