Joel Salinas (born 1983) is an American-born Nicaraguan neurologist, neuroscientist, and author. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Isaac Health, where he focuses on brain health and dementia care. Previously a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, his research has explored brain health, cognitive resilience, and the impact of social relationships on neurological wellbeing. He is also widely known for having mirror-touch synesthesia, a rare condition that allows him to physically experience the sensations of others. His best-known book, "Mirror Touch: A Memoir of Synesthesia and the Secret Life of the Brain," combines personal memoir with neuroscience to explore empathy, perception, and the human brain.
