Jeff Goodell（ジェフ・グッデル） アメリカのジャーナリスト、ノンフィクション作家。30年以上にわたり気候変動、エネルギー、環境問題を取材し、『Rolling Stone』誌の寄稿編集者として数多くのルポルタージュを発表してきた。カリフォルニア大学バークレー校で学び、コロンビア大学で創作を専攻。2020年にはグッゲンハイム・フェローに選ばれた。科学的知見と現地取材を融合させ、気候危機が社会や人々の暮らしに及ぼす影響を描くノンフィクションで知られる。代表作『The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet』（未邦訳）は、猛暑が人類にとって最も深刻な気候リスクとなりつつある現実を、世界各地の現場取材と最新の科学研究をもとに描いた作品である。極端な高温が健康、都市、農業、生態系をどのように変えつつあるのかを明らかにし、気候変動を「熱」という視点から捉え直した一冊として注目を集めた。ニューヨーク・タイムズのベストセラーとなり、2023年の『The Economist』やNPRの年間ベストブックにも選ばれた。
Jeff Goodell is an American journalist and nonfiction writer best known for his reporting on climate change, energy, and the environment. A longtime contributing writer for "Rolling Stone," he has spent more than three decades covering the human consequences of a warming planet. He earned a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.F.A. from Columbia University, and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2020. His work combines immersive reporting with clear scientific explanation, making complex environmental issues accessible to a broad audience.
