ジャロン・ラニアー（Jaron Lanier、1960年–）は、アメリカのコンピューター科学者、VR研究者、技術思想家、音楽家。1980年代にVPL Researchを設立し、ヘッドマウントディスプレイやデータグローブを用いたVRシステムの商用化を進め、複数の利用者が参加する仮想世界やアバターなど、初期のVR技術の発展を牽引した。現在はMicrosoftのOffice of the Chief Technology OfficerでPrime Unifying Scientistを務める。デジタル技術を人間の創造性や個人の尊厳を拡張するためのものと捉え、巨大プラットフォームへのデータと富の集中、アルゴリズムによる行動操作、AIを人間から独立した知性として扱う考え方を批判してきた。代表作『人間はガジェットではない IT革命の変質とヒトの尊厳に関する提言』（原題 "You Are Not a Gadget: A Manifesto"）では、集合知や無料文化を重視するインターネットの設計思想が個人の創造性や価値を損なう危険を指摘し、テクノロジーを人間中心に設計し直す必要性を論じている。
Jaron Lanier (born 1960) is an American computer scientist, virtual reality pioneer, technology thinker, and musician. In the 1980s, he founded VPL Research, one of the first companies to commercialize virtual reality systems using head-mounted displays and data gloves, and helped pioneer multi-user virtual worlds and avatars. He is currently Prime Unifying Scientist in Microsoft's Office of the Chief Technology Officer. Throughout his career, Lanier has argued that digital technology should enhance human creativity and individual dignity, while criticizing the concentration of data and wealth in large technology platforms, algorithmic manipulation, and the tendency to portray artificial intelligence as an autonomous intelligence separate from the people who create and sustain it. In "You Are Not a Gadget: A Manifesto," he examines how digital systems built around collective intelligence and free information can diminish individual creativity and value, and argues for a more human-centered approach to technology.
