Jared Diamond(ジャレド・ダイアモンド、1937年生まれ)は、アメリカの地理学者、進化生物学者、生理学者、作家。カリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校地理学教授。ハーバード大学で生理学・生物物理学の博士号(Ph.D.)を取得し、鳥類学、生理学を経て、地理学、進化生物学、環境史へと研究領域を広げた。人類史、文明、環境、地理的要因を学際的に分析する研究で世界的に知られ、科学的知見を一般読者にもわかりやすく伝える著作で高い評価を受けている。1997年刊行の『Guns, Germs, and Steel』は、人類社会の発展を地理・環境の観点から読み解いた画期的な著作として、1998年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『The Third Chimpanzee』『Guns, Germs, and Steel』『Collapse』『The World Until Yesterday』『Upheaval』などがある。
Jared Diamond (born 1937) is an American geographer, evolutionary biologist, physiologist, and author. He is Professor of Geography at the University of California, Los Angeles. After earning his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from Harvard University, he conducted research in physiology and ornithology before expanding his work into geography, evolutionary biology, environmental history, and the study of human societies. Widely recognized for his interdisciplinary approach, Diamond explores how geography, ecology, and environmental factors have shaped the course of human history. His landmark book "Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies" won the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and has become one of the most influential works of popular history and social science. His other notable books include "The Third Chimpanzee," "Collapse," "The World Until Yesterday," and "Upheaval."
