James S. Shapiro(ジェームズ・S・シャピロ、1955年生まれ)は、アメリカの文学研究者、シェイクスピア研究者。Columbia University英文学・比較文学教授。コロンビア大学およびシカゴ大学で学び、1985年からコロンビア大学で教鞭を執る。専門はウィリアム・シェイクスピアと初期近代イングランドの文学・文化史で、膨大な史料に基づく実証的研究と、一般読者にも読みやすい筆致で国際的に高い評価を受けている。"1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare"でSamuel Johnson Prizeを受賞し、"1606: The Year of Lear"ではJames Tait Black Memorial Prizeを受賞した。著書に"Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare?"、"Shakespeare in a Divided America"、"The Playbook"などがある。

James S. Shapiro (born 1955) is an American literary scholar and one of the world's leading authorities on William Shakespeare. He is the Larry Miller Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, where he has taught since 1985. Specializing in Shakespeare and early modern English culture, Shapiro is renowned for combining rigorous archival research with engaging narrative writing that brings the Elizabethan world to life for both scholars and general readers. His book "1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare" won the Samuel Johnson Prize, while "1606: The Year of Lear" received the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. His other notable works include "Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare?", "Shakespeare in a Divided America", and "The Playbook: A Story of Theater, Democracy, and the Making of a Culture War."
