James P. Hogan (1941–2010) was a British science fiction writer. Drawing on his background in engineering and information technology, he became one of the leading authors of hard science fiction, known for stories built around rigorous scientific reasoning and imaginative speculation. His best-known novel, "Inherit the Stars," begins with the discovery of a 50,000-year-old human corpse on the Moon and develops into a sweeping exploration of humanity's origins and the history of the solar system.
