略歴（Biography）
Giulio Boccaletti（ジュリオ・ボッカレッティ）は、イタリア出身の科学者、作家。ボローニャ大学で理論物理学を学び、プリンストン大学で大気・海洋科学の博士号を取得した。Massachusetts Institute of Technologyで気候科学や流体力学の研究に従事した後、McKinsey & Companyのパートナーを経て、The Nature Conservancyで最高戦略責任者（CSO）兼水資源部門グローバル・マネージング・ディレクターを務めた。現在はEuro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Changeのサイエンティフィック・ディレクターを務めている。水資源、気候変動、環境政策、持続可能な開発を専門とし、水が文明や国家、経済の形成に果たしてきた役割を科学と歴史の両面から探究する研究で国際的に高く評価されている。2021年刊行の Water: A Biography では、人類の歴史を「水」という視点から読み解き、文明の興亡や政治、経済との深い関わりを描いている。著書に Water: A Biography などがある。
Giulio Boccaletti is a British-Italian scientist, author, and expert on water, climate, and environmental policy. He earned a degree in theoretical physics from the University of Bologna and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from Princeton University. After conducting research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he became a partner at McKinsey & Company before serving as Chief Strategy Officer and Global Managing Director for Water at The Nature Conservancy. He is currently Scientific Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change. Widely recognized for his interdisciplinary approach, Boccaletti examines how water has shaped civilizations, political institutions, and economic development throughout history. His book Water: A Biography (2021) offers a sweeping history of human civilization through the lens of water, combining insights from science, history, economics, and public policy.
