Richard Powers（リチャード・パワーズ、1957年生まれ）は、アメリカの小説家。イリノイ大学アーバナ・シャンペーン校で英文学を学んだ後、コンピュータープログラマーとして働き、その後作家に転身した。科学、テクノロジー、音楽、人工知能、遺伝学、環境問題などを文学と融合させた知的で壮大な作品で知られ、現代アメリカ文学を代表する作家の一人とされる。2018年刊行の『The Overstory』は、樹木と人間の関係を壮大なスケールで描いた長編小説として高く評価され、2019年のピューリッツァー賞 フィクション部門を受賞した。その後も『Bewilderment』がブッカー賞最終候補に選ばれるなど、高い評価を受けている。著書に『The Gold Bug Variations』『Gain』『The Echo Maker』『The Overstory』『Bewilderment』『Playground』などがある。
Richard Powers (born 1957) is an American novelist renowned for weaving science, technology, music, artificial intelligence, genetics, and environmental themes into ambitious works of literary fiction. After studying English at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign, he worked as a computer programmer before turning to writing full time. Widely regarded as one of the leading novelists of his generation, Powers is celebrated for combining intellectual depth with emotional storytelling. His novel The Overstory (2018), an epic exploration of the relationship between humans and trees, won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His later novel Bewilderment was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. His other notable works include The Gold Bug Variations, Gain, The Echo Maker, Bewilderment, and Playground.
