Richard Hofstadter（リチャード・ホフスタッター、1916–1970）は、アメリカの歴史学者。コロンビア大学教授。ニューヨーク州立大学バッファロー校卒業後、コロンビア大学で歴史学博士号（Ph.D.）を取得した。専門はアメリカ政治思想史、知識人史、社会史で、アメリカ民主主義や政治文化を批判的かつ知的に分析した研究によって、20世紀を代表するアメリカ史家の一人と評価されている。1955年刊行の『The Age of Reform: From Bryan to F.D.R.』で1956年のピューリッツァー賞 歴史部門、1963年刊行の『Anti-Intellectualism in American Life』で1964年のピューリッツァー賞 一般ノンフィクション部門を受賞した。著書に『The American Political Tradition』『The Age of Reform』『Anti-Intellectualism in American Life』『The Paranoid Style in American Politics』などがある。

Richard Hofstadter (1916–1970) was an American historian and Professor of History at Columbia University. After graduating from the University at Buffalo, he earned his Ph.D. in History from Columbia University. A leading interpreter of American political thought, intellectual history, and social history, he profoundly influenced the study of American democracy and political culture. He received the 1956 Pulitzer Prize for History for "The Age of Reform: From Bryan to F.D.R." and the 1964 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for "Anti-Intellectualism in American Life." His other influential works include "The American Political Tradition," "The Paranoid Style in American Politics," and "The Progressive Historians."
