リチャード・ドーキンス（Richard Dawkins、1941年生まれ）は、イギリスの進化生物学者、動物行動学者、著作家。オックスフォード大学卒業後、同大学教授として長年にわたり進化生物学を研究し、チャールズ・シモニー記念科学理解促進教授を務めた。遺伝子を進化の基本単位とする「遺伝子中心の進化論」の提唱者として世界的に知られ、一般向け科学書を通じて進化論の普及にも大きく貢献した。また、「ミーム（meme）」という概念を提唱したことでも知られ、文化や情報の伝播を考える上で大きな影響を与えている。進化論、科学教育、無神論をめぐる積極的な発言でも国際的な注目を集めてきた。著書に『利己的な遺伝子』『延長された表現型』『盲目の時計職人』『神は妄想である』『祖先の物語』『最大のショー』『さらば、神よ』などがある。

Richard Dawkins (born 1941) is a British evolutionary biologist, ethologist, and author. After graduating from the University of Oxford, he spent most of his academic career there, serving as the University's first Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science. He is internationally renowned for advancing the gene-centered view of evolution, which he introduced to a broad audience through his influential bestseller "The Selfish Gene." In that book, he also coined the term "meme", a concept that has had a lasting impact on discussions of cultural evolution and information transmission.
