Rebecca Stefoff is an American writer of nonfiction for young readers. She has written biographies and books on history and science, and has adapted major works originally written for adults. In “The Third Chimpanzee for Young People,” her adaptation of Jared Diamond’s book, she begins with the similarities between humans and other animals to explore human evolution and the consequences of human behavior. For “On the Origin of Species: Young Readers Edition,” she reshaped Darwin’s classic with explanations and illustrations that help readers understand natural selection in light of later research. She also adapted Howard Zinn’s history as “A Young People’s History of the United States,” telling the story of America through the experiences of Indigenous peoples, enslaved people, and workers.
