Ray Bradbury（レイ・ブラッドベリ、1920–2012） アメリカの小説家、短編作家、脚本家。イリノイ州生まれ。大学には進学せず独学で文学を学び、1940年代からSFやファンタジー、ホラーの分野で数多くの作品を発表した。詩情豊かな文体と鋭い人間観察で、科学技術や未来社会を描くだけでなく、記憶、郷愁、自由、人間性といった普遍的なテーマを追究した20世紀を代表する作家の一人である。代表作『華氏451度』（原題: "Fahrenheit 451"）は、本を読むことや所有することが禁じられ、消防士が本を焼却する近未来社会を舞台に、検閲、言論の自由、知識の価値を問いかけたディストピア小説である。刊行以来、世界各国で読み継がれ、現代文学を代表する古典として高く評価されている。
Ray Bradbury (1920–2012) was an American novelist, short story writer, and screenwriter. Born in Illinois, he was largely self-educated and began publishing science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories in the 1940s. Renowned for his lyrical prose and profound humanism, Bradbury used speculative fiction to explore memory, imagination, freedom, technology, and the human condition. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential writers of twentieth-century literature. His best-known novel, "Fahrenheit 451," is a dystopian classic set in a future society where books are banned and "firemen" burn them to suppress knowledge and independent thought. A powerful meditation on censorship, intellectual freedom, and the value of literature, it has become one of the defining works of modern speculative fiction.
