王谷 晶（おうたに あきら、1981年–）は、日本の小説家、エッセイスト。東京都生まれ。19歳からライターとして活動し、ゲームのシナリオやライトノベルの執筆、警備員やコールセンターなどの仕事を経て、2012年にゲームのノベライズでデビューした。2020年に刊行した『ババヤガの夜』（英題 “The Night of Baba Yaga”）では、暴力を唯一の趣味とする新道 依子と、彼女が護衛することになった暴力団会長の娘を中心に、暴力に囲まれた世界での二人の関係を描いた。同作は2021年に日本推理作家協会賞の最終候補となり、サム・ベットによる英訳版は2025年、英国推理作家協会のダガー賞翻訳部門（Crime Fiction in Translation Dagger）を受賞。王谷は日本人作家として初の受賞者となった。小説と並行してエッセイも執筆し、2023年の『カラダは私の何なんだ？』では、美容、体形、出産などをめぐって女性の身体に向けられる要求を取り上げ、文庫化に際して書き下ろしも加えた。2026年の『令和元年生まれ ルリカ50歳』は、首都が埼玉に移った近未来の日本を舞台に、清掃員として暮らす50歳の女性が「定年」制度に抗う集団と出会い、重傷を負った後、臓物と機械を融合した身体へ改造される物語。穏やかに働いて制度に従う生活が崩れる過程を、身体の変容を伴うSFアクションとして描いた。
Akira Otani (born 1981) is a Japanese novelist and essayist from Tokyo. She began working as a writer at nineteen, wrote game scenarios and light novels, and supported herself through jobs including security work and call-centre work before making her book debut with a game novelization in 2012. Her 2020 novel “The Night of Baba Yaga” centres on Yoriko Shindo, whose sole hobby is violence, and the daughter of a yakuza boss whom she is hired to protect. Their relationship develops within a world structured by violence and coercion. The novel was a finalist for the Mystery Writers of Japan Award in 2021. In 2025, Sam Bett’s English translation won the Crime Writers’ Association’s Crime Fiction in Translation Dagger, making Otani the first Japanese author to receive the award. Alongside her fiction, Otani writes essays. Her 2023 Japanese collection “Karada wa Watashi no Nannan da?” examines demands placed on women’s bodies concerning beauty, body shape, and childbirth, and includes new writing added for the paperback edition. Her 2026 novel “Reiwa Gannen Umare: Rurika 50-sai” moves to a near-future Japan whose capital has relocated to Saitama. Its fifty-year-old protagonist works as a cleaner and encounters a group opposing the country’s retirement system. After suffering severe injuries, she is reconstructed with a body combining organic tissue and machinery. Otani depicted the disruption of an apparently ordinary, compliant working life through science-fiction action and bodily transformation.
