オーランド・パターソン（Orlando Patterson、1940–）は、ジャマイカ生まれのアメリカの社会学者。ハーバード大学教授を務め、奴隷制、自由、人種、民族関係を専門としている。歴史学、社会学、人類学を横断する研究で知られ、とりわけ奴隷制と自由の概念を比較文明的な視点から分析した業績は、現代社会科学に大きな影響を与えている。代表作 *Freedom in the Making of Western Culture* では、西洋社会における「自由」という理念がどのように形成・発展してきたのかを古代から近代に至る歴史の中で考察し、1994年の全米図書賞（ノンフィクション部門）を受賞した。
Orlando Patterson (1940–) is a Jamaican-born American sociologist. A professor at Harvard University, he specializes in slavery, freedom, race, and ethnic relations. Renowned for his interdisciplinary scholarship, Patterson has combined insights from sociology, history, and anthropology to reshape the study of slavery and the meaning of freedom across civilizations. His best-known book, *Freedom in the Making of Western Culture*, traces the historical development of the idea of freedom in the Western world from antiquity to the modern era. The book won the 1994 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
