Omar El Akkad（オマール・エル・アッカド、1982年生まれ）は、エジプト生まれのカナダ系アメリカ人の小説家、ジャーナリスト。カイロで生まれ、カタールで育ち、10代で家族とともにカナダへ移住。Queen's Universityでコンピュータサイエンスを学んだ後、カナダの新聞The Globe and Mailの記者として約10年間活動し、アフガニスタン戦争、グアンタナモ収容所、アラブの春、ブラック・ライブズ・マター運動などを取材した。その経験をもとに、戦争、難民、アイデンティティ、帝国主義をテーマとする小説・ノンフィクションを発表している。小説"What Strange Paradise"で2021年のScotiabank Giller Prizeを受賞し、ノンフィクション"One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This"で2025年のNational Book Award for Nonfictionを受賞した。著書に"American War"、"What Strange Paradise"、"One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This"などがある。
Omar El Akkad (born 1982) is an Egyptian-born Canadian-American novelist and journalist. Born in Cairo and raised in Doha, Qatar, he moved to Canada as a teenager and studied computer science at Queen's University. He spent nearly a decade as a staff reporter for The Globe and Mail, covering the war in Afghanistan, the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, the Arab Spring, and the Black Lives Matter movement. Drawing on these experiences, his fiction and nonfiction explore war, displacement, identity, and the moral consequences of political violence. His novel "What Strange Paradise" won the 2021 Scotiabank Giller Prize, while his nonfiction debut, "One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This," received the 2025 National Book Award for Nonfiction. His other notable books include "American War" and "What Strange Paradise."
