Katsura Okamura is a Japanese translator specializing in finance, investment, and marketing across commercial documents and books. She studied international finance in Aoyama Gakuin University’s School of International Politics, Economics and Communication and joined Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance after graduating. After undertaking translation work in the United States, she returned to Japan, worked in an electronics manufacturer’s translation department, and became freelance. Her commercial work included presentations, contracts, legal cases, and annual reports. Following experience preparing preliminary book translations, she entered publishing translation with a Japanese edition of a book on hedge funds published in 2001. She has also worked on audiovisual translation and reading overseas books for publishers. In finance, she translated Liam Vaughan’s Flash Crash into Japanese in 2020. The investigation followed the life of Navinder Singh Sarao, who traded from his family home near London, alongside the structure of increasingly automated markets and the events surrounding the US market crash of 2010. Her marketing work extended to advertising with the 2022 Japanese edition of John R. Rossiter, Larry Percy, and Lars Bergkvist’s Marketing Communications: Objectives, Strategy, Tactics. Okamura translated the book under the supervision of Shizue Kishi. Covering objectives, strategy, creative execution, and evaluation, it examined more efficient marketing, effective creative work, and ways to reach consumers who block or skip advertisements. In 2025, she produced a new Japanese translation of Jim Rickards’s The New Case for Gold. The book argued for gold as a store of wealth and a monetary standard, drawing on financial history and monetary theory while discussing practical questions of asset ownership.
