Audrey Tang (1981–) is a Taiwanese programmer, civic hacker, and former minister of digital affairs. After teaching themself programming and becoming active in open-source communities, Tang was appointed Taiwan’s digital minister without portfolio in 2016 and became the country’s first minister of digital affairs in 2022. Tang promoted digital platforms for public participation, open government data, and responses to disinformation, and helped connect government data with civic developers during the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling widely used maps of mask availability. In “Odori Tan: Dejitaru to AI no Mirai o Kataru” (“Audrey Tang on the Future of Digital Technology and AI”), Tang presents AI not as a replacement for human beings but as a tool for expanding collective intelligence and cooperation, grounded in transparency and democratic participation.
