Junichi Nojo (born 1951) is a Japanese manga artist from Tokyo. He made his debut in 1971 with "Sakuran" and became known for his sharply drawn portrayals of characters confronting one another in highly competitive worlds. After gaining recognition with the mahjong manga "Naki no Ryu," he received the 42nd Shogakukan Manga Award for "Gekka no Kishi," a series set in the world of professional shogi. It follows Shosuke Himuro, a gifted young player who arrives at the Shogi Hall carrying a recommendation from a legendary master and enters a world where professional players stake their talent and pride on each match. Since 2017, Nojo has also worked on "Showa Tenno Monogatari," based on a work by Kazutoshi Hando, portraying the life of Emperor Hirohito against Japan’s turbulent Showa history and its path toward war.
