Masao Noguchi (born 1968) is a translator specializing in medical and natural-science literature. Born in Kyoto City, he graduated from Doshisha University’s Faculty of Law. His translations cover medical history, biological evolution, and the environment. In Richard Gunderman’s “Contagion,” he translated an illustrated account of epidemics, medicine, and public health from the Black Death to COVID-19. Elizabeth D. Jones’s “Ancient DNA” examines the development of research on DNA from the past, connecting scientists’ work with the cultural influence of “Jurassic Park.” He also translated Carol Cooper’s Japanese volume “Sekai o Kaeta Iryo Kigu no Rekishi,” which follows changing approaches to diagnosis and treatment through instruments ranging from trepanning tools and stethoscopes to heart-lung machines.
