Nicole Krauss (1974–) is an American novelist born in New York. She made her debut with “Man Walks Into a Room,” about a man confronting loneliness and identity after losing part of his memory. “The History of Love,” which connects an elderly Holocaust survivor, a young girl, and the history of a lost manuscript, won the William Saroyan International Prize for Writing. “Great House,” structured around the lives linked by a single writing desk, was a finalist for the National Book Award and received the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award. Across works including “Forest Dark,” Krauss uses layered narratives to explore memory, loss, Jewish history, and the bonds linking people to family and homeland.
