Nicolas Niarchos is a journalist whose reporting focuses on energy, war, migration, and mineral resources. He has contributed to “The New Yorker” since 2014, and his work has also appeared in “The Nation,” “The New York Times,” and “The Guardian.” He received a 2023 Edward R. Murrow Award for radio reporting from Ukraine, while his investigation of nickel mining in Indonesia was shortlisted for a 2024 Livingston Award. His representative work, “The Elements of Power: A Story of War, Technology, and the Dirtiest Supply Chain on Earth,” draws on reporting from cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other sites around the world to trace the supply chains behind electric vehicles and smartphones.
