Kyoko Nitta is a Japanese translator of English-language nonfiction on technology, international politics, history, and clothing. Born in Mie Prefecture, she lived in San Francisco before moving to Toronto. Kara Swisher’s “Burn Book” draws on decades of reporting to examine technology executives and the power their companies exercise in society. John Mearsheimer and Sebastian Rosato’s “How States Think” considers how the decisions of states can be understood. Patrick Grant’s writing on tailoring connects the history of men’s clothing with the practical knowledge involved in making garments. Nitta’s translations move across political institutions, businesses, and material culture, introducing the ideas and practices behind them.
