略歴（Biography）
永井隆（ながい たかし、1908年 - 1951年）は、日本の医師、医学者、著述家。長崎医科大学で放射線医学を研究し、放射線科医として診療と研究に携わる一方、自らも長年の放射線被曝によって白血病を発症した。1945年8月9日の長崎への原子爆弾投下では重傷を負いながら被爆者の救護活動にあたり、その後は病床で原爆の被害や医学、信仰、家族、平和について数多くの著作を執筆した。代表作『長崎の鐘』では、自身が原爆に遭遇した瞬間から、負傷者の治療、妻の死、焼け野原となった長崎での救護活動までを記録し、医師の視点から放射線による人体への影響や被爆者の症状についても記している。自らも重い病を抱えながら、原爆によって一変した長崎の街と、そこで生き延びた人々の姿を伝えた記録である。
Takashi Nagai (1908–1951) was a Japanese physician, medical researcher, and writer. A specialist in radiology at Nagasaki Medical College, he developed leukemia after years of exposure to radiation in the course of his medical work. On August 9, 1945, he was seriously wounded by the atomic bombing of Nagasaki but continued treating the injured. Increasingly confined to his sickbed after the war, he wrote extensively about the atomic bombing, medicine, faith, family, and peace. In his best-known work, "Nagasaki no Kane," Nagai recounts the moment he experienced the atomic bombing, his efforts to treat the wounded, the death of his wife, and the medical relief work carried out amid the ruins of Nagasaki. Writing as both a survivor and a physician, he also recorded the physical effects of radiation and the symptoms suffered by survivors, leaving an account of a devastated city and the people struggling to survive in its aftermath.
