ナイジェル・ハミルトン（1944年–）は、イギリス出身のアメリカの伝記作家、歴史家。政治指導者や軍人の生涯を、家族関係、組織内の対立、意思決定の過程と結びつけて描いてきた。陸軍元帥バーナード・モントゴメリーの公式伝記三部作の第1巻『Monty: The Making of a General, 1887–1942』（未邦訳）で、1981年のウィットブレッド伝記賞を受賞。『JFK: Reckless Youth』（未邦訳）では、ジョン・F・ケネディの少年期から1946年の連邦下院議員選挙までをたどり、父ジョセフの影響、兄との競争、病気や従軍経験が、のちの政治家としての人物像を形づくる過程を描いている。マサチューセッツ大学ボストン校では、伝記研究と歴史学に携わった。
Nigel Hamilton (1944–) is a British-born American biographer and historian. His work examines political and military leaders through their family relationships, institutional conflicts, and decision-making. “Monty: The Making of a General, 1887–1942,” the first volume of his authorized three-part biography of Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, received the 1981 Whitbread Award for Biography. In “JFK: Reckless Youth,” Hamilton traces John F. Kennedy’s life from childhood to his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1946, showing how his father’s ambitions, rivalry with his elder brother, chronic illness, and wartime service contributed to his development as a political figure. Hamilton has also taught and conducted research on biography and history at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
