Yoko Nakamura is a Japanese cooking expert and certified instructor in meals for young children. After working as an assistant to a cooking expert, she became independent, developing recipes for baby food, lunchboxes, sweets, and cooking activities for parents and children. “Rikeino o Tsukuru Taberareru Jikken Zukan” introduces edible experiments that explore changes in ingredients through making sweets such as candies and jellies. “Kitchen de Atama ga Yoku Naru! Rikeino ga Sodatsu Recipe,” supervised by science and mathematics educator Yoshio Tsuji, explains the science behind everyday cooking and snacks. “Hitori de Dekita! Taberareru Jikken,” supervised by chemistry teacher Kazuhiro Miyamoto, offers accessible experiments involving colour, texture, cooling, and bubbling with familiar ingredients. Drawing on cooking experiences with her own children, Nakamura connects the pleasure of making and eating food with opportunities to ask why things happen.
