Hanako Nagata (born 1982) is a Japanese economist and Associate Professor at Ibaraki University. Specializing in Asian economies, South Asian studies, and gender studies, she has conducted extensive research on women working in Bangladesh’s garment industry, examining globalization, wages, working conditions, and the movement of manufacturing across borders. In "990-en no Jīnzu ga Tsukurareru no wa Naze? Fast Fashion no Kōjō de Okotte Iru Koto," she investigates how inexpensive clothing sold in Japan is produced, drawing on field research among garment workers in Bangladesh. The book connects the low prices enjoyed by consumers in Japan with the lives and low-paid labor of women at the other end of the global apparel supply chain.
