Mayako Muroi (1921–2026) was a Japanese pianist and author. She graduated at the top of her class from the Tokyo Academy of Music (now Tokyo University of the Arts) and made her debut as a soloist with the Japan Symphony Orchestra (now the NHK Symphony Orchestra) in 1945. After studying at the Berlin University of the Arts, she spent many years performing in Europe before returning to Japan, where she became known for introducing works by composers such as Erik Satie and Paul Dukas to Japanese audiences. Alongside her concert career, she wrote extensively about music and life, remaining an active performer well past the age of 100. Her best-known book, "Every Day, Keep Going: Habits for a Fulfilling Life from a 97-Year-Old Concert Pianist," reflects on the daily practices, discipline, and optimism that sustained her remarkable career. Through both her performances and her writing, Muroi inspired generations with her lifelong dedication to music and learning.
