Tomihiko Morimi (born 1979) is a Japanese novelist from Nara Prefecture. He graduated from Kyoto University’s Faculty of Agriculture and completed graduate studies there. He made his literary debut in 2003 when “Tower of the Sun” won the Japan Fantasy Novel Award. Often setting his fiction in Kyoto, Morimi blends the city’s historic streets and university life with fantasy, eccentric characters, comic misadventures, and a highly distinctive narrative voice. His Yamamoto Shugoro Prize–winning novel “The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl” follows a young woman roaming through Kyoto after dark and an older student pursuing her, as drinking parties, a used-book fair, and a university festival turn a single night into a succession of strange encounters.
