モクモクれんは、日本の漫画家。『光が死んだ夏』（英題 “The Summer Hikaru Died”）で商業連載デビューし、同作が『このマンガがすごい！2023』のオトコ編で第1位に選ばれた。物語の舞台は、幼なじみの少年よしきと光が暮らす集落。よしきは、光の姿をした存在が別の「ナニカ」にすり替わっていると気づきながらも、一緒にいたいという思いから関係を続ける。親しい相手の顔や声が変わらないことへの安堵と、その内側に未知の存在がいる恐怖を重ね、喪失を受け入れられない少年の葛藤を描く。田舎の集落の日常に怪異が入り込む青春ホラーを手がけている。
Mokumokuren is a Japanese manga artist who made their commercial serialization debut with “The Summer Hikaru Died.” The series ranked first in the boys’ category of “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023.” Set in a rural community, it follows Yoshiki, a teenager who realizes that his childhood friend Hikaru has been replaced by something unknown. Despite this discovery, Yoshiki chooses to remain close to the being that looks and sounds like his friend. The story places the comfort of a familiar presence alongside the fear of what lies beneath it, exploring grief and the difficulty of accepting loss. Mokumokuren combines coming-of-age drama with supernatural horror, allowing the uncanny to intrude into the routines and relationships of village life.
