Morgan Thomas is an American fiction writer from the Gulf Coast. A graduate of the University of Oregon’s MFA program, they write about the body, history, place, and changing forms of identity through transgender and genderqueer characters. Their story collection “Manywhere” follows people crossing both geographical borders and gender binaries. It was a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize, the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction, the Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Fiction, and the Publishing Triangle’s Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction. Thomas’s debut novel, “Mad Eden,” centers on an autistic trans healthcare worker living with their partner in an isolated Florida cabin and trying to preserve a precarious life amid economic insecurity and an increasingly hostile political climate. It was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Fiction.
