代表作『寄生虫なき病』(原題 “An Epidemic of Absence: A New Way of Understanding Allergies and Autoimmune Diseases”)では、アレルギーや自己免疫疾患の増加を、人間と微生物・寄生虫との関係から探る。
Moises Velasquez-Manoff is a science journalist who studied science writing at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. He covered science and the environment for The Christian Science Monitor and has contributed to publications including The New York Times Magazine and Scientific American. His book “An Epidemic of Absence: A New Way of Understanding Allergies and Autoimmune Diseases” investigates the rise of allergic and autoimmune disorders through humanity’s changing relationships with microbes and parasites. Combining interviews with researchers and patients with his own experience of illness and experimental helminth therapy, he examines the hypothesis that reduced exposure to organisms with which humans evolved may affect immune regulation. His reporting explores scientific approaches that understand the human body through its relationships with other living organisms.
