モアメド・ムブガル・サール（1990年–）は、セネガルのダカールに生まれ、フランス語で執筆する小説家。セネガル中部のディウルベルで育ち、フランスの社会科学高等研究院で文学と哲学を学んだ。失踪したセネガル人作家の足跡を若い作家が追う『人類の深奥に秘められた記憶』で、2021年にサハラ以南のアフリカ出身者として初めてゴンクール賞を受賞した。『Pure Men』（未邦訳）は、同性愛者と疑われた男性の遺体が墓から掘り出される映像を目にした大学教員が、セネガル社会に根づく同性愛嫌悪と自身の偏見に向き合う物語である。ララ・ヴェルニョーによる英訳は、2026年全米図書賞翻訳文学部門のロングリストに選ばれた。

Mohamed Mbougar Sarr (born 1990) is a Senegalese novelist who writes in French. Born in Dakar and raised in Diourbel, he studied literature and philosophy at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. His novel “The Most Secret Memory of Men,” which follows a young writer searching for the truth about a vanished Senegalese author, won the 2021 Prix Goncourt, making Sarr the first writer from sub-Saharan Africa to receive the award. “Pure Men” follows a university professor who confronts both his own prejudices and the violent homophobia embedded in Senegalese society after watching a video of a man’s body being exhumed because he was believed to be gay. Lara Vergnaud’s English translation was longlisted for the 2026 National Book Award for Translated Literature.
