Kaoru Moriuchi is a Japanese translator working from English and German. She graduated from Sophia University’s Department of French Studies. Her translations include fiction and nonfiction on war, German society, history, and psychology. Timur Vermes’s “Look Who’s Back” uses Hitler’s appearance in the present to satirize society and the media. In Harald Jähner’s history of postwar Germany, she translated an account of the reconstruction of everyday life after defeat. Michael Kempe’s biography of Leibniz, published in Japanese as “Raipunittsu no Kagayakeru Nanokakan,” reconstructs his thought through seven significant days, using letters and notes. Her work repeatedly connects individual lives with wider historical transformations.
