Shion Miura (1976–) is a Japanese novelist and essayist. She began writing book reviews while studying at Waseda University and made her fiction debut in 2000 with “Kakutō suru Mono ni Maru.” In 2006, she received the Naoki Prize for “Mahoro Ekimae Tada Benriken,” which follows two men running a small general-service business and the people they encounter in a suburban Tokyo community. Her representative novel, “Fune o Amu,” portrays a group of dictionary editors working for more than a decade to complete a new dictionary, tracing their devotion to language, the transfer of professional knowledge, and the relationships formed through their work; it received the 2012 Japan Booksellers’ Award.
