Minae Mizumura (born 1951) is a Japanese novelist whose work explores language, literature, and cultural identity through the lens of both Japanese and American experience. Raised partly in the United States, she writes fiction and criticism that examines the place of Japanese literature in a globalized world. Her best-known novel, "Honkaku Shōsetsu" ("A True Novel"), reimagines the traditions of modern Japanese literature through the story of two intertwined lives, reflecting on love, class, and the possibilities of the novel in the Japanese language.
