Michelle Bowdler is an American public health expert and social activist. A graduate of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, she has worked in university health and wellness leadership, including as Executive Director of Health and Wellness at Tufts University, while advocating for more effective responses to sexual violence. In "Is Rape a Crime?: A Memoir, an Investigation, and a Manifesto," she combines an account of her own sexual assault and the inadequate police investigation that followed with an examination of untested rape kits, low prosecution rates, and the suspicion often directed at survivors. The book was longlisted for the 2020 National Book Award for Nonfiction.
