Koki Mizuide is a Japanese media historian and sociologist who serves as an associate professor in the Faculty of Sociology at Kansai University. His research explores how memories of disasters are constructed, transmitted, and sometimes forgotten through newspapers, television, and other media. His representative work, “Saigo no Kiokushi: Media ni Miru Kanto Daishinsai, Isewan Taifu” (A History of Post-Disaster Memory), compares the media remembrance of the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Ise Bay Typhoon, revealing the role that repeated reporting and public narratives play in preserving—or eroding—collective memory.
