Miyako Miwa is a Japanese translator of English-language books on learning, work, and psychology. She graduated from the College of Liberal Arts at International Christian University. She translated Jim Kwik’s “Limitless” and its expanded edition, which discuss beliefs about learning, motivation, memory, and reading strategies. In Juliet Funt’s “A Minute to Think,” Miwa translated an argument for leaving space within crowded working lives to reflect, rest, and reconsider decisions. She also translated Alexander Batthyány’s “Threshold: Terminal Lucidity and the Border of Life and Death.” The book examines reports of terminal lucidity, in which people with severe cognitive impairments briefly display unexpected clarity near the end of life. Her translation presented the cases assembled by the author and the questions that remained about how the phenomenon could be understood.
